Who We Are

The Wonder Lab was created to address a simple problem: in its current state, Broadway is pummeling ahead like a semi-truck through the Lincoln Tunnel without some of the most valuable, courageous, and gifted voices of the future.

Let us explain. Post-pandemic economic shifts have dramatically altered the landscape of musical theatre at every level, leaving many without access:

  1. Performers cannot afford the continued education and skill maintenance required to succeed in an increasingly scarce job market

  2. New works rely on stars from TV and popular culture in order to secure investment and ensure recoupment of initial funds

  3. National and local arts funding is shrinking at an alarming rate leaving American kids without quality theatre education and exposure

The Wonder Lab is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that provides accessible and equitable musical theatre education and new works through subsidized training, community-based educational experiences, and developmental performance opportunities that uplifts emerging and underrepresented voices in the performing arts.

At The Wonder Lab, wondering, “what if?” is only the first step. Then, we:

‍ ‍Shape ideas | The Frame

Ignite careers | The Kiln

Weave inspiration | The Loom

To provide accessible and equitable musical theatre education and programming through subsidized training, community-based educational experiences, and new works and performance opportunities that support artistic development and uplift emerging and underrepresented voices in the performing arts.

What We Do

Initiatives

  • A selective two-year fellowship supporting early-career musical theatre performers in NYC. Designed as a conservatory-style training alternative, it includes funded training, mentorship, networking and professional development, cultural access, stipends or contracted support as needed.

  • Educational programming and concert experiences brought to communities across the country and around the world. These outreach events are designed to be revenue-generating and are offered in partnership with local schools, arts organizations, and cultural institutions.

  • Supports emerging musical theatre writers and creatives through: rehearsal and development space; mentorship from seasoned professionals; administrative and artistic guidance; culminating concert-style showcases; initially offered once per year, with plans to expand to twice annually.

Vision & Values

To usher the next generation of creative voices into the musical theatre industry who might otherwise be excluded due to systemic financial, geographic, or systemic barriers.

Accessibility: we make involvement in the arts accessible.

Stewardship: we invest in the life-changing impact the arts have on participants and patrons alike.

Community: we provide a generative ecosystem where community can be nurtured and maintained through mentorship and a shared vision.
